Our Investment Philosophy & Portfolio Management Process

We take a goals-based investment planning approach, incorporating behavioral finance into it.

Our objective is to provide optimal risk-adjusted portfolios that provide above-average returns with lower volatility that results in progress towards meeting your stated goals and needs.

We believe that each financial situation is unique and deserves a personalized approach to investment management, whether you are an individual or a business.

Our primary objective is to help you define and achieve your financial goals within parameters appropriate to your situation.

The starting point for establishing the right mix of investments for your portfolio is to understand your cash flow requirements, return expectations, and risk tolerance.

We then integrate this information with our macroeconomic views and market return expectations to create investment portfolios. Once portfolios are constructed, we monitor, manage, and review your portfolio in response to developments in the capital markets, geopolitical changes, and economic events.

‍Portfolio risk can be decreased by increasing diversification among different asset classes, including cash, bonds, domestic and foreign stocks, and tangible assets such as REITS, commodities, and natural resource investments.

how it works

What to Expect When Working With Us

01

Schedule investment consultation. This is your opportunity to ask questions, share challenges you’re facing as an investor, and explore how we can help address your needs and goals.

02

Define and prioritize your goals. Before a single trade is placed, we create a plan to meet your goals.

03

Establish your investment strategy. We construct an initial portfolio strategy based on the results of your goals, time horizon, and investment risk tolerance.

04

Allocate your investments. We open the appropriate accounts and begin allocating your portfolio according to the investment strategy created.

05

Monitor, manage and educate. Once the accounts are opened and funded, we walk you through your private online performance portal so you can see in real time – all the time – how your accounts are performing.

We manage the investments inside your accounts on your behalf, while making sure you stay abreast of the investment decisions.

Meet with us throughout the year to discuss what’s going on in your accounts, what investment changes need to be made, and strategize based on what’s going on in the economy and our predictions of the markets.

Frequently Asked Questions

The types of investments we typically use in our clients’ accounts are index funds, including mutual funds and ETFs (exchange traded funds). The investment portfolio can also consist of a mix of individual stocks, bonds, and cash equivalent positions.

How the investments in each account are selected is based on the client’s time horizon, risk tolerance, and goals.

We also offer clients options to for Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) & Environmental and Social Governance (ESG) Investing.

We will need to update your financial plan when a major life event happens such as you losing your job, you get a pay raise or large bonus, you got married or have children, you want to buy or sell a home, etc.

Typically, clients who hire us strictly for financial planning and not for investment management will come back to us to update their plan every 1.5 to 2 years.

We manage our clients’ accounts and investments at TD Ameritrade and Charles Schwab.

Clients hire us for many reasons, but here are a few common “pain points” we solve.

  • You have too much cash just sitting in a bank doing nothing but getting eaten up by inflation. Your money could be working harder for you.
  • You’re currently investing but have no idea whether you’re investing in the “right” things or doing it the “right way.” You have no idea whether your current strategy is working for you or if it’ll actually help you meet your goals.
  • You get overwhelmed by all the different types of accounts and investment options.
  • You’re just opening accounts and investing based on what you hear in the media or taking tips from friends and family, but you’re not sure it’s even appropriate for what you’re trying to accomplish. There are endless opinions but no real advice that you feel confident you can apply on your own.
  • There’s too much information, and you don’t know what to really pay attention to or filter out, especially when there’s a downturn in the economy. And you feel like you’re missing out when the economy and stock market is doing well. Everyone seems to be making or growing their money, except you.
  • You don’t want to be in an echo chamber of investment opinions.
  • You don’t have time to research investment options, much less keep up with the changing global economy.
