Does getting older pay off? We think so!

Does getting older pay off? We think so!

There are many benefits to aging, especially when it comes to finances.

Society’s negative outlook on aging often prevents us from celebrating the perks that come with the territory. Reaching a milestone age can be more of a rewarding than daunting experience if we focus on the positive aspects of aging, even something as simple as keeping more cash in our pocket with senior discounts.

Senior discounts are available (almost) everywhere. Most locations offer discounts for those age 55 or older, but there are a few that offer discounts as young as age 50.

If you are unfamiliar with where to find these deals, we did some research for you to get you started.

Here’s a list of 14 Senior discounts you can take advantage of right away.

You deserve to have a good time – and it doesn’t have to be expensive!

  • National Parks – The National Park Service offers a Senior Pass that provides endless opportunities to explore over 417 areas covering more than 85 million acres. Passholders can visit national parks, monuments, battlefields, lakeshores, scenic rivers and trails, the White House and more! U.S. citizens or permanent residents 62 and older can purchase either a lifetime ($80) or annual pass ($20/year).

  • AMC Theatres – AMC has been a leader in the entertainment industry for many years and has more than 380 AMC Theatres® locations nationwide. Senior discounts are available to moviegoers 60 and older.

  • Zoos and Aquariums – If you find joy and wonder in interacting with animals, plan a trip to your local zoo or aquarium. These attractions typically offer senior discounts on daily admission tickets.

From casual dining to desserts, seniors can trim their dining-out bill.

  • Chili’s – Known for their Baby Back Ribs and sizzling fajitas, Chili’s has over 1,600 locations nationwide. Customers 55 and older can receive a 10% discount at participating locations.

  • Denny’s – Did you know that America’s diner has a 55+ Menu? This menu features some of Denny’s signature items in smaller portions and better prices at participating locations.

  • Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream – From humble beginnings to global success, Ben & Jerry’s legendary scoops are served at locations worldwide. Customers 60 and older can receive a 10% discount at participating locations.

In need of retail therapy? Savings on savings is the secret to guiltless shopping.

  • Goodwill Retail Stores – Are you in the market for gently used clothing or goods? Many Goodwill locations offer senior discounts on select days of the week.

  • Kohl’s –  Kohl’s offers well-known brands at prices designed to fit your budget, but why not stack your savings? Shoppers 60 and older receive a special 15% discount every Wednesday.

  • Banana Republic – Owned by apparel giant Gap, Banana Republic offers an assortment of fashionable and timeless clothing items for men and women. Most stores offer a daily discount of 10% to customers 50 and older.

Ready to give in to your wanderlust? Book a trip around the world!

  • Marriot Hotels – With over 4,000 locations worldwide, there is no shortage of spectacular places to stay with Marriott. Guests who are 62 and older can save 15% or more on their room rate. The best part? The discount is available at Marriott brand hotels worldwide, seven days a week.

  • Greyhound – Don’t let long distances stop you from hitting the road! Serving more than 3,800 destinations across North America, Greyhound is the largest provider of intercity bus service in the U.S. Greyhound travelers 62 and older are eligible to receive a 5% discount on passenger fees.

  • Amtrak – Prefer to travel by train? Amtrak has 21,000 route miles and operates more than 300 trains daily to more than 500 destinations, including three Canadian provinces. Travelers 65 and older are eligible to receive a 10% discount on most rail fares.

  • T-Mobile – America’s Best Unlimited Network offers many perks including no annual contracts, no taxes and a senior discount! Customers 55 and older are eligible to get two lines with unlimited talk, text and LTE data for $35/line when signing up for AutoPay.

  • Pep Boys – With more than 900 locations across the U.S. and Puerto Rico, Pep Boys is a one stop shop for every aspect of vehicle care. Pep Boys provides a 10% discount for customers 55 and older.

Discount Shopping Tip:

As with many things, discounts come and go. Contact the vendor with any questions or to verify which discounts are still valid. Discounts may vary by age, location or franchise.

The Bottom Line:

Don’t let the negative stereotypes of aging overshadow the perks that come with it. This list offers only a tiny glimpse into the many benefits of growing older. Learn how to embrace aging instead of fearing it.

Remember, sometimes senior discounts are given only to those who request them, so the best strategy is to simply ask.

Start building the life you’ve always wanted.
